Det Fynske Kammerkor synger julen ind med Julemusik fra mange lande samt Brittens A Ceremony of Carols.
Benjamin Brittens A Ceremony of Carols for kor, soli og harpe fra 1942 har i mange år været et af komponistens mest kendte og elskede værker, og det er derfor helt oplagt, at Det Fynske Kammerkor opfører det som optakt til julen. Britten skrev værket medens han var på vej med skib fra England til USA, og her havde han god tid til at studere bøger om harpe og spilleteknik.
Det Fynske Kammerkor bliver til koncerterne akkompagneret af Harpenisten Joost Schelling, medens solopartierne synges af korets egne sangere.
Udover A Ceremony of Carols vil koncerten indeholde julesange fra mange lande, bl.a. Danmark. Koncerterne varer en time og dirigeres af Docent Alice Granum.

Christmas Concerts in Sct. Albani Kirke

The choir performs A Ceremony of Carols by the English composer Benjamin Britten and Christmas songs and hymns from many countries. Conductor is Alice Granum.
The version of A Ceremony of Carols performed this afternoon is scored for mixed chorus, solo voices, and harp. Written for Christmas, it consists of eleven movements. The original version for three-part treble chorus was written in 1942 while Britten was at sea, going from the United States to England.
Originally conceived as a series of unrelated songs, it was later unified into one piece with the framing processional and recessional chant in unison based on the Gregorian antiphon Hodie Christus natus est, heard at the beginning and the end. A harp solo based on the chant, along with motifs from the movement Wolcum Yole, also serves to unify the composition. In addition the movements This Little Babe and Deo Gracias have the choir reflecting harp-like effects.
